Standing With You and For You
By Tanya Kitts-Lewinski
Sisters and Brothers,
Welcome to the 2019-20 school year – we hope you have settled in smoothly over the last several weeks. The work you do each day, caring for and educating our community’s children, is the most valuable work there is. We know how hard you work to deliver the best to Kenosha students. We see you. We believe in you. And we thank you.
Your Kenosha Education Association is here to be your voice, to advocate for our students, our educators, and our public schools in Kenosha. Together, we are rebuilding our union, and for the first time since Act 10, we are growing! Kenosha educators are choosing to unite for a better KUSD. Rebuilding our union is the way of hope and the way forward. Our students are counting on us.
Your KEA is a member-led and member-driven union. There are many ways to get involved this year. KEA is offering a full calendar of course offerings, free and exclusive to members, including Understanding Benefits and Deciphering Your Paycheck, Fight to End Exploitation, and Love and Logic: Behavior Management. KEA has multiple active committees that members can join including: KEPAC, Racial Justice in Education, Gender Inclusion, High School Prep Time, and Young Learners. Do you have another education issue that you are passionate about? KEA can help you turn your passion into action.
Your KEA also won the opportunity to voice concerns with the district on topics important to members through a concerted campaign for meet and confer. All members are invited to participate in preparation efforts for our next meet and confer session on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at 4:30pm at the KEA office. All members are also invited to attend the public meet and confer session with district administration on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at the ESC.
We thank you for joining the fight for our students, our schools, and for public education. Your union stands with you and for you.
